(November 25, 2008) It seems I'm always reporting sad
news and deaths these days. But Here's another one...
particularly sad.
Drummer MICHAEL LEE has passed
away. Michael played with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page for their
"UNLEDDED" Reunion and the two tours that followed. He also
co-wrote
the tracks on the PAGE/PLANT "WALKING INTO CLARKSDALE"
I had the pleasure of meeting
Michael when he toured with THIN LIZZY in 2004. He was very warm and
loved talking about our shared heroes. He was humble and very gracious,
he said he was very lucky to have been able to play with his heroes. He
was a great talent.
He was only 39 years
old.

ROBERT PLANT, JIMMY PAGE
drummer Michael Lee (also known as Michael Gary Pearson) has died
according to Lemonsqueezings.blogspot.com. He was 39.
Michael drummed for Robert
Plant beginning with the recording of his 1993 album Fate of Nations.
He can be heard on that album's 'Memory Song (Hello Hello)' and
'Network News'.
Robert Plant asked him to go
on tour as the drummer for his tour, and he gladly accepted. They spent
some time opening for LENNY KRAVITZ on that tour. Led Zeppelin's singer
was closing his sets with 'Whole Lotta Love', and Michael Lee was a
major part of it all.
A keen sense of timing is one
thing a good drummer should have. Michael's was great since Robert
Plant's next career move was to reteam with Jimmy Page. Half of Led
Zeppelin was playing regularly for the first time in 15 years and,
Michael was along for the ride. He drummed for the Unledded sessions
and promoted the No Quarter album release with Page and Plant.
As Page and Plant then took
their band on tour for the next year, Lee may have been the world's
most-watched drummer. They trotted across the globe and packed houses
while they put a new twist on Led Zeppelin's music with local
orchestras and an assembly of Lebanese, Egyptian and Moroccan
musicians. But when they were just a fourpiece playing Led Zeppelin
songs, they were very much like Led Zeppelin.
The one thing Page and Plant
hadn't done with their new group that whole time was write some new
material. Finally, Michael got the chance to participate in some
songwriting sessions in 1997. As a result, he and bassist Charlie Jones
are credited alongside Page and Plant as co-writing every song on
Walking into Clarksdale. The scaled-down fourpiece band embarked on a
tour in 1998 to support this album.
It was just before some 1999
tour dates that Robert Plant slipped away from Page and took Charlie
Jones with him. Michael Lee evidently stayed with Jimmy Page, as Lee
was there for the very next live appearance with Page, which took place
in October 1999 at Net Aid. They unveiled a new instrumental at that
show, 'Domino', and to this date, it stands as the only original number
Page has released since Walking into Clarksdale. Since Michael Lee was
there for that too, it's pretty clear how important he was in the
ongoing story of Led Zeppelin's former members in the 1990s.
(November 12, 2008) It seems
we're losing the greats one after the other.....
MITCH MITCHELL
1946 - 2008

Mitch
Mitchell, the innovative drummer who anchored the Jimi Hendrix
Experience, has died at the age of 62. Mitchell passed away on November
12 in Portland, Oregon of natural causes. The London native had
completed an 18 city American tour as a featured performer with
Experience Hendrix, a series concert series celebrating the legacy of
Jimi Hendrix featuring an all-star line-up of artists including his
one-time Hendrix bandmate and dear friend Billy Cox. Other performers
on the tour included Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Kenny Wayne Shepherd,
Jonny Lang, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Robby Krieger of the Doors,
Mike McCready of Pearl Jam as well as members of Los Lobos and others.
Portland was the tour’s last stop and Mitchell had been staying in town
for some vacation time before his planned return to England.
Janie Hendrix, CEO of
Experience Hendrix, LLC commented, “We’re all devastated to hear of
Mitch’s passing. He was a wonderful man, a brilliant musician and
a
true friend. His role in shaping the sound of the Jimi Hendrix
Experience cannot be underestimated. Over the course of the recent
tour, he seemed delighted with the interchange with the other musicians
and the audiences. There is no question that he was doing what he
loved.”
Mitchell began working with
Experience Hendrix, the family owned company established by James “Al”
Hendrix shortly after its inception. He had been featured in many
of
the documentaries and programs issued by the company over the
years.
Before signing on as the
drummer with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Mitchell had built a
reputation through his work with The Pretty Things, Georgie Fame &
The Blue Flames and had been one of the top session drummers of the
time starting at the age of 14. His drumming technique was an amalgam
of rock and jazz styles as he was heavily influenced by the likes of
Elvin Jones and Max Roach. He joined the Jimi Hendrix Experience
in
1966 and performed with Hendrix and bassist Noel Redding at their US
debut at the Monterey Pop Festival in June of 1967. He was also,
most
notably, part of the later version of the Jimi Hendrix Experience that
included Billy Cox who performed the closing set of the Woodstock
Festival on August 18, 1969. Following the death of Jimi Hendrix in
1970, Mitchell worked with producer Eddie Kramer in completing work on
both The Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge albums.
Prior to his music career,
Mitchell was a noted child actor who starred in the TV series Jennings
At School as well as numerous feature films. After falling in love with
American jazz, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, he abandoned acting and devoted
the rest of his life to music.
Mitchell was part of a super
group known as “The Dirty Mac” that appeared in the 1968 TV special The
Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus joining with John Lennon, Eric
Clapton and Keith Richards. He later recorded and performed with
bands
including Ramatam as well as with Terry Reid, Cream’s Jack Bruce, Jeff
Beck, Junior Brown and others. Mitchell is survived by his mother, his
wife of 24 years, a daughter and two grand children.

(September 15, 2008) PINK
FLOYD's Richard Wright Dies At
65
Richard Wright, a founder member of
PINK FLOYD, has died at the age of 65 after battling cancer, his
spokesman said.
Wright played the keyboard
with the legendary band and wrote music in classic albums such as Dark
Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here.
His spokesman said: "The
family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with
great sadness, that Richard died ... after a short struggle with
cancer. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this
difficult time."
Wright's spokesman did not say
from what form of cancer the star had been suffering.
The self-taught keyboardist
and pianist met fellow band members Roger Waters and Nick Mason while
at architecture school. He was a founder member of The Pink Floyd Sound
in 1965, and the group's previous incarnations, such as SIGMA 6.
In the early days of Pink
Floyd, Wright, along with Syd Barrett, was seen as the group's dominant
musical force. The London-born musician and son of a biochemist wrote
and sang several songs of his own.
'The Great Gig In The Sky',
and 'Us And Them', both from 1973's seminal Dark Side Of The Moon
album, were his most well-known compositions. He also made essential
contributions to Atom Heart Mother, Echoes and Shine On You Crazy
Diamond, the tribute to former band member Barrett.
After his relationship with
Waters became increasingly difficult, he left Floyd following sessions
for the album The Wall. Wright was retained as a salaried session
musician during live concerts in 1980 and 1981. In 1983, Pink Floyd
released the only album in which Wright does not appear - The Final
Cut.
Wright played with the
surviving members of Pink Floyd in 2005 at Live 8. He also performed at
a tribute concert to Barrett last year, but Waters and Gilmour, who
famously fell out more than 25 years ago, appeared separately. Wright
had performed on every Pink Floyd tour.
He officially rejoined Pink
Floyd following the departure of Waters and contributed vocals and
keyboards to the 1987 album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. In 1994, he
co-wrote five songs on The Division Bell album, singing lead vocals on
the track Wearing The Inside Out.

Comedian
George Carlin passed way yesterday...or has he would have
said...DIED....KICKED THE BUCKET....BOUGHT THE FARM.... you get the
idea.
I thought I'd post this qoute from
him as my own tribute to him.....There's a Lot of Wisdom in it........
"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings
but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend
more but have less; we buy more but enjoy less. We have bigger houses
and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more
degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more
experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too
little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too
tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have
multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much,
love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years
to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We
conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things,
but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the
atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan
more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We
build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies
than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days
of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality,
one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from
cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the
showroom window and nothing in stockrooms, when technology can bring
this letter to you and a time when you can choose either to share this
insight, or just hit delete.
Remember to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not
going to be around forever. Remember to say a kind word to someone who
looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up
and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to
you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and
it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but
most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes
from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment
for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love,
give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in
your mind.
"This ain't no practice life...we only get one shot" ~George Carlin

Recorded at 4th Street Live in Louisville, KY July 14, 2005
(March 6, 2006) Join
us EVERY Wednesday night at THE BRICKYARD on Fegenbush Lane right
behind Bill
Collins Ford.
The Show starts at 7:00 and we Rock till 11:00.
(January 23, 2006) It's
2:30 am and I just got in from tonight's show at The Brickyard.
I'm thankful
that I'm able to write this,
you see this time 12 years ago I was being rushed to the
emergency room
after being hit by a drunk driver. It's hard to believe a
dozen
years have
passed. I've forgotten what it's like to walk
and to dance. But thankfully I can still play my guitar. I
really
hate sitting in my wheelchair and I get so frustrated with my
limitations but
I'm so blessed to be able to make a living playing music for all of
you. I
get to see the best in so many people, everyone is so thoughtful
and
accepting of my handicap that sometimes I forget I can't walk because
I'm
soaring in the clouds on the love people give to me. I'm living
my dream
so how can I be sad? It's ironic that I lost so much to a drunk
driver and
now I make my living playing in bars. As I remember the
past decade
I can say that though I've endured and suffered unthinkable pain.
I've
also enjoyed immeasurable joy and blessings. The Bible says "God
works all things for the good for those who love the Lord" and I know
that
that is absolutely true. A couple of years ago I tried to write about
my

And we owe them something, those boys. We owe them first a promise: That just as they did not forget their missing comrades, neither, ever, will we." ~ Ronald Reagan May 26, 1986
"Like those Boys in
Vietnam,
our American Warriors who have paid the ultimate sacrifice during this
War on
Terror and every other war and conflict this nation has endured, we owe
them a
debt that can never be repaid. We must always honor their memory and
support
their brothers who survived. For it was their sacrifice that guaranteed
and
insured our freedoms we take for granted every day.
Remember why we have this day off from work to spend with our
families.
It's to honor our fallen American Warriors" ~ David

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES........... Bob Hope Passed away last night. Born May 29, 1903 Bob Hope became one of America's most beloved performers. His history of stage, films, and television are only overshadowed by his endless mission of supporting our troops overseas, by bringing them laughs and songs from home. For many soldiers then last show they saw before dying in combat was Bob Hope. Last night July 27, 2003 Bob joined those thousands of brave young men he brought laughter to. The era of the great entertainers is fading into memory. Bob Hope, George Burns, Bing Crosby, Jackie Gleason, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin To say "They don't make like that anymore" is an understatment. |

THE BIG ROCK SHOW had a great time at The Bluegrass Bikefest.
Unfortunately due to the rain the crowd was made up of just a handful
of diehard
fans and the vendors. We were happy to meet so many nice people
from
around the country. I'm sure The Bluegrass Bikefest will
grow into a
Major Annual event. I was really impressed by DALLAS
MOORE who took the stage as we were leaving. He's got
a great
band.
